After Care

Successful completion of a drug treatment program is an important first step on the road to a lifetime recovery from alcoholism or drug abuse. Even after a drug treatment program, maintaining sobriety in the real world can be difficult for patients. Proper after care can help patients transition successfully back into society, free of drug and alcohol abuse.

Many drug treatment centers offer aftercare or outpatient programs to help their patients maintain sobriety even after they have left the treatment center. They offer the support needed to help you become an independent member of society without being dependent on drugs or alcohol. There are a variety of after care programs available, so be sure to find the right one for you.

Many drug treatment centers offer a work exchange rehab program in which clients who have completed the program work various jobs in the treatment center. They receive a normal salary and room and board while they save their earning to begin their life in society again. These programs are best for those clients who need an intensive after care program.

The most popular after care option is out patient support groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous. These programs offer support through weekly meetings of group therapy where former addicts can share their experiences with one another. These programs help individuals build back self reliance they may have lost during addiction.

Another type of aftercare program is a sober living house. These transitional living facilities help clients make a fresh start. Clients work jobs to pay rent at the house while attending therapy meetings. Once clients have complete therapy, usually a twelve-step program, they can move our prepared for the real world. These programs are best for clients who would like the support of an after care facility, but not too intense of a setting.
