Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a group oriented program for those trying to recovery from drug addiction. NA is a twelve step program modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous and emphasizes the same strong sense of fellowship among members. Narcotics Anonymous holds meetings all over the world to help individuals recover from narcotics abuse.

The purpose of Narcotics Anonymous is to help those who desire to stop using drugs.

As an organization, they are not affiliated with any particular religious or political group. In addition, they solely focus on personal recovery, and do engage in research, education, or promotion of any sort. NA supports the idea of addiction as a progressive disease that effects every facet of an individuals life differently.

Narcotics Anonymous meetings are free and membership does not require any dues. During meetings, members share their experiences and support each other through the difficult process of recovery. By meeting regularly in this manner, members are able to help keep each other clean of not only narcotics, but all mind altering substances. In addition, meeting time is also dedicated to reading form NA literature. Some meetings are open to all members of the public, while others are closed only to those with drug abuse problems. Meetings are usually held in large local venues such as community centers and churches.

Narcotics Anonymous is a spiritual twelve step program. NA places importance on members developing a strong relationship with a higher power to help them throughout the recovery process.

Narcotics Anonymous also promotes members to engage in public service work. Engaging in service out of good while is an excellent example of the basis of freedom NA promotes. Service work may be as simple as cleaning up after meeting, or as involved as volunteering within the local community.
